Chapter 14 - Daniel’s biggest failure
Daniel had not joined HOUSE RULES.
He did know it existed.

Helen accidentally sent him a screenshot from it.
He saw the title.
Read three messages.
Including:
Naomi doesn’t need a report every time Lily gets corrected.
What did he do?
He texted Helen:
Please stop making secret parenting committees.
Helen replied:
Then you handle your wife.
Daniel:
I’m not handling Naomi. Just don’t make Lily keep secrets.
That sounded good.
Then he did nothing else.
Did not tell me.
Did not ask Lily whether adults were withholding contact.
Did not remove her from unsupervised time there.
Why?
He told our therapist:
“I was exhausted by conflict.”
His engineering job had become demanding.
My relationship with Helen was tense.
Carla’s separation from Mark created family chaos.
Daniel wanted one place in his life where nobody needed him to choose.
He chose by not choosing.
The family system interpreted silence as permission.
Lily interpreted Dad’s silence as agreement.
