Chapter 15 - Carla’s explanation
Carla eventually agreed to a formal interview.
Her attorney present.
She admitted swinging the skewer.
Denied intending to fracture Lily’s leg.
She said:
“I was trying to scare her.”
That was already serious.
Why?
Lily had been on the swing.
Carla asked her to get off because lunch was ready.
Lily said:
“Mom said I can finish.”
Carla said:
“I’m telling you now.”
Lily replied:
“You’re not my mom.”
Carla grabbed the swing chain.
Lily stepped away.
Then allegedly added:
“Nobody wants you here anyway.”
Did Lily say that?
She denied it.
No independent audio.
Maybe.
Maybe not.
Carla said the sentence triggered her because Mark had said something similar during separation.
She picked up the skewer from the nearby grill-prep table.
Intended to strike the swing frame beside Lily.
“I wanted her to stop smirking.”
The video showed Lily crying before the strike.
Not smirking.
Carla’s own language changed under evidence.
Then:
“I swung too close.”
Prosecution’s view:
Whether she intended the exact point of contact, she deliberately swung a long metal object in anger at a nine-year-old standing within range.
