The financial investigation was not criminal at first.
There was no police fraud unit waiting behind the wedding cake.
But Cassandra’s father found something strange.
Several expensive registry items had been marked purchased.
Yet no gifts arrived.
Cassandra said guests chose cash alternatives.
Possible.
Then Dennis discovered his business card had been charged $12,400 to a luxury home retailer.
He had authorized $2,400.
The merchant produced order details.
Furniture.
Rugs.
Lighting.
Delivery address:
North Howe townhouse.
Cassandra had used her father’s stored business card credentials after he agreed to purchase one dining set.
She claimed he verbally approved the rest.
Dennis denied it.
This became a civil family dispute at first.
He did not immediately call police.
Instead:
“Pay me back.”
