Chapter 5 - The police report
Ellen did not want police at the reception.
At first.
She said:
“Not tonight.”
I said:
“He shoved you.”
“I know.”
“Cassandra hit you.”
“I know.”
“Then why not tonight?”
She looked toward the ballroom doors.
“Because Michael is still my son.”
That sentence hurt.
Then Thomas Bell asked a better question.
“Mrs. Whitmore, if another guest did what the video shows, would you want us to call?”
Ellen closed her eyes.
“Yes.”
Police arrived.
No wedding raid.
No bride dragged from the dance floor.
Officers took preliminary statements.
Michael had counsel contacted before speaking substantively.
Cassandra cried.
Said Ellen had “provoked her beyond reason.”
An officer asked:
“Did Mrs. Whitmore strike you?”
“No.”
“Threaten you physically?”
“No.”
Cassandra said:
“She was destroying the wedding.”
The officer wrote that down.
