Chapter 14 - Noah’s patch knowledge I finally asked Noah:
“How did you recognize this?”
He pointed at my sleeve.
“My sister.”
“Where did she serve?”
“Aviation maintenance school. Your team inspected them last year.”
“She an instructor?”
“Second class.”
“Did she warn you about us?”
“She said if you see yellow and black during assessment week, don’t lie because they already have cameras.”
I laughed.
“That is not what the patch means.”
“She was very specific.”
“Your sister sounds dramatic.”
“She is.”
Then Noah became serious.
“I didn’t stop Jake because of rank.”
I looked at him.
“I saw the patch and realized he was about to be really stupid.”
“That is not the same thing.”
“I know.”
“Would you have stopped him if I had been an E-2?”
He hesitated.
That hesitation was the real answer.
“Maybe not fast enough.”
