He did not lose every benefit he had ever earned.
He was a recruit with limited service time and a documented pattern of misconduct.
The command used administrative and disciplinary processes available for trainees.
His conduct included:
Taking and contaminating another sailor’s food.
Humiliating directives.
Participation in repeated harassment.
Failure to respond appropriately to prior counseling.
He received formal discipline and was placed on training hold.
Then the command initiated an administrative separation review.
Jake was allowed to respond.
He had counsel.
His record was considered.
So were character statements.
Ultimately, he was separated from the Navy at an early stage of service under a characterization appropriate to his status and circumstances.
Not because he touched the wrong secret operative.
