Normal.
Childcare work often does.
Three families agreed to speak.
One praised her.
One said she was “strict.”
Monica described the recording.
Then a fourth family became important.
The Carsons.
Dana worked there for nine months.
Their son Matthew had autism and communication delays.
His mother, Julie, remembered Dana insisting he needed “firmness.”
Once Julie came home early and found Matthew shut inside a dark pantry.
Dana said:
“He put himself there.”
Julie fired her.
Again:
No police report.
Why?
No physical injury.
Dana denied locking the door.
Julie was overwhelmed.
She just wanted her out.
Years later, she cried when Detective Nguyen called.
“I should have done more.”
That sentence became a chorus.
Monica.
Julie.
