Dana’s attorney filed a complaint.
Luke did not deny it.
He told police:
“She lunged for evidence. I stopped her. Then I lost my temper and slapped her after she was already down.”
Clear.
No self-defense excuse for the actual slap.
The county attorney reviewed it separately.
Low-level assault exposure.
Luke’s employer conducted an internal review because investigators are expected to maintain professional judgment even off duty when evidence preservation is involved.
He was furious at himself.
“I handed them a distraction.”
I said:
“You saved me.”
“Both can be true.”
Yes.
He later accepted a misdemeanor diversion arrangement.
Anger-management education.
Community service.
No magical exemption because he was protecting his pregnant sister seconds earlier.
I hated that.
Then respected him for accepting it.
Luke said:
May you like
“If I expect people I investigate to own their actions, I don’t get to invent a different rule for mine.”
Annoyingly ethical.
