“I have never met him.”

Another photograph showed Ethan leaving a restaurant.
The boy had drawn a circle around him and written:

Amelia felt the air leave her lungs.

Vivian’s obsession with a male heir could be focused on a child who already existed.

“My mother says Amelia is in danger.”
“Who is your mother?”
