Chapter 24 - LEONARD PIKE’S BOARDLeonard Pike entered trial believing corporate necessity would make him sympathetic.
Vale Meridian employed forty thousand people. Its pension funds supported thousands more. Its medical foundations served families across several states.
Leonard argued that William’s succession methods prevented hostile takeovers and irresponsible heirs from destroying those lives.
“Did hiding Violet protect employees?” the prosecutor asked.
“It prevented a disputed birth from freezing company control.”
“Did the infant need to be removed from her mother?”
“The board needed independent custody.”
“Why?”
“Sarah had left Alexander.”
“Because Alexander was having an affair.”
“Yes.”
“Did that make Sarah medically unsafe?”
“No.”
The answer weakened every psychiatric report Leonard ordered.
Bianca testified about interception.
She had answered Alexander’s phone, blocked Sarah’s emails, forged no signature personally but forwarded documents she knew misrepresented Alexander’s wishes.
Leonard told her Sarah would eventually surrender custody and that marrying Alexander would create stability.
Then he prepared a secret contract to marry Bianca himself and raise Lily.
“You wanted the company,” the prosecutor said.
“Yes.”
“You wanted Alexander removed.”
“Yes.”
“You wanted Bianca available.”
“Yes.”
“Did you love her?”
Leonard looked toward Bianca.
“I believed we could build something.”
Bianca answered from the witness chair:
“He believed my ambition made me an asset that would call possession love.”
She did not deny her own ambition.
Alexander testified next.
Leonard’s attorney displayed years of executive approvals.
“You delegated correspondence.”
“Yes.”
“You told Bianca to handle Sarah.”
“Yes.”
“You signed without reading.”
“Yes.”
“You created the environment.”
“Yes.”
“Then why blame my client?”
“I am describing my responsibility and his. I betrayed my wife. Leonard turned the betrayal into a custody operation.”
The defense had expected rage or denial.
Accountability left fewer openings.
Sarah’s recorded testimony described the car, the hospital transfer attempt, the returned letters, and the boardroom.
“Did Leonard force Alexander to have an affair?” the defense asked.
“No.”
“Did he force you to leave?”
“No.”
“Did he force you not to break through company security?”
“I was pregnant, followed, and carrying evidence. A wife should not need to assault guards to make her husband read a message.”
The jury convicted Leonard of conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, trust fraud, obstruction, evidence destruction, identity manipulation, corporate theft, and directing intimidation against Sarah.
He was convicted of conspiracy related to the car attack but not personally attempting murder. Jason’s impact decision remained his own aggravated assault.
Leonard received a sentence likely to keep him imprisoned for the rest of his life.
Jason received a shorter but substantial sentence for assault, conspiracy, evidence tampering, and attempted removal of Evelyn. His cooperation and domination by Leonard affected punishment. His adult choices remained.
Several board members received separate outcomes.
Two were convicted.
Three pleaded guilty.
Four were cleared of knowing the reproductive scheme but sanctioned for ignoring suspicious payments.
One executive who preserved evidence received whistleblower protection without automatic promotion.
The board could not cleanse itself by naming one hero.
Vale Meridian’s criminal accounts entered receivership.
Employee salaries continued.
Pensions received public guarantees while funds were audited.
Medical foundations moved into temporary independent governance.
Leonard’s conviction did not justify collapsing every useful institution.
His personal shares entered restitution.
Bianca received no promised penthouse or board seat.
After trial, she asked Sarah for a private meeting.
Sarah declined privacy.
They met with attorneys present.
“I knew Leonard was using me,” Bianca said. “I believed I was using him too.”
“Yes.”
“I did not know Violet was above the boardroom.”
“No.”
“I did not know about Daisy or Iris.”
“No.”
“I did know you were pregnant after your lobby visit.”
“Yes.”
Bianca looked down.
“I wanted Alexander to choose me even after knowing.”
“He did not receive the chance to choose fatherhood because you removed it.”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
“I know enough to plead guilty.”
Bianca’s criminal resolution would come after Catherine and William’s trials.
Before Leonard was transferred, investigators asked where William’s offshore escape fund had moved.
Leonard smiled.
“You still believe he is inside federal detention.”
The medical transport logs showed William had left the facility twelve hours earlier under an emergency cardiac order carrying Helena’s signature.
Helena had signed no transfer.
