Chapter 6 - The Locked Nursery Above the CityViolet had lived for six months inside the hidden forty-fourth floor.

Three rotating nurses cared for her.

All believed Sarah had voluntarily surrendered one twin into a protective family trust.

The consent form carried Sarah’s signature.

It was forged.

Rebecca found the child after following payments from Leonard Pike to the nursing agency. She entered the nursery two weeks earlier and replaced the board’s surveillance feed with a closed recording.

She had remained hidden inside the tower waiting for Sarah to enter with Rose.

“Why not contact police immediately?” Naomi asked.

“I didn’t know which agents were connected to Vale Meridian.”

“Why not contact Sarah directly?”

“Her phone was monitored.”

Sarah looked at her former attorney.

“You still decided to keep me ignorant.”

Rebecca’s face tightened.

“Yes.”

“Even to protect Violet, you decided I could survive not knowing.”

“Yes.”

No excuse followed.

Sarah respected the honesty without mistaking it for absolution.

Medical advocates were brought to the floor. Both infants underwent independent examinations. Rose was healthy. Violet had signs of a repaired congenital heart defect, treated shortly after birth without Sarah’s knowledge.

Alexander sat outside the examination room.

Bianca approached under federal supervision.

“You have two daughters.”

“Possibly.”

“You believe Sarah?”

“I believe evidence.”

Bianca laughed bitterly.

“You used to believe whatever protected your pride.”

“I know.”

The admission stopped her.

Alexander looked through the glass at Sarah holding both babies with the help of a nurse.

“I missed six months because I let you control what reached me.”

Bianca’s eyes filled.

“You chose me.”

“Yes.”

“You keep speaking as though I was only part of a conspiracy.”

“You were not only that.”

The affair had been real.

So had Bianca’s ambition.

She had loved the access, attention, and future she imagined.

But Leonard had positioned her.

Two truths remained.

Bianca revealed that Leonard told her Sarah had undergone a private fertility procedure years earlier. He claimed the marriage was already producing a “continuity child” outside normal family plans.

Bianca thought Sarah intended to use a pregnancy to seize the company.

That fear made it easier to intercept the messages.

“You could have asked me,” Alexander said.

“I wanted the story that made me necessary.”

The same could be said of him.

The independent laboratory compared Rose and Violet.

They were fraternal twins.

Sarah was the biological mother of both.

Rose’s paternity matched Alexander.

Violet’s paternal markers remained inconclusive because the hospital’s stored sample registry had been corrupted.

The result did not establish another father.

It established that someone had altered evidence.

Martin reviewed the Vale fertility archive.

Years earlier, Alexander had stored genetic material before undergoing treatment after a sports injury. His father controlled the clinic.

The sample could have been used during Sarah’s emergency procedure without either spouse’s informed consent.

If so, both girls might still be his.

The board had intentionally damaged the chain of custody to preserve uncertainty.

Uncertainty weakened Sarah’s legal authority.

Leonard Pike finally requested a private conversation with Alexander.

It occurred under federal recording.

“Your father instructed us to preserve the Vale line,” Leonard said.

“My father is dead.”

“His directives remain.”

“You stole my child.”

“We protected an heir from a woman who had already left you.”

“She left because I betrayed her.”

“The trust cannot depend on marital emotion.”

Alexander stared.

Leonard believed the crime was administrative necessity.

“Why two children?”

“Helena’s clause was dangerous. A single girl could control seventeen percent. Two disputed daughters created balance.”

“You created legal warfare between infants.”

“We created governance.”

Alexander stood.

Naomi stopped him from reaching Leonard.

The billionaire’s rage had returned, but now he could see what it frightened in the room.

He stepped back.

Leonard smiled faintly.

“You are trying very hard to appear changed in front of Sarah.”

Alexander answered quietly.

“I’m trying not to become my father in front of my daughters.”

The smile disappeared.

Leonard gave them the location of William Vale’s original fertility records.

A private safe inside the Vale penthouse.

Sarah had surrendered her penthouse keys with the divorce documents.

Bianca possessed a duplicate.

Federal agents entered the residence.

The nursery Sarah once planned but never completed had been fully furnished.

Two cribs stood beneath a mural of roses and violets.

Someone had prepared for both babies before Sarah discovered the pregnancy.

Inside one crib lay a smartphone playing a recorded message from William Vale.

Alexander’s dead father spoke:

“If both girls survive, only one must be recognized. The other becomes the family’s insurance.”

👉 The hidden nursery proved William planned for both twins before Sarah even knew she was pregnant, and his recording revealed one child had always been intended to replace the other.
