Chapter 25 - THE FOUNDER WHO LEFT TWICEWilliam’s escape aircraft never crossed an international border.

Its transponder disappeared above the Atlantic, but fuel records showed it could not reach Europe.

Margaret Mason identified the likely destination.

A medical vessel called Continuity, registered as a research ship and owned through the Mason-Vale patent alliance.

Andrew Mason had helped finance it decades earlier.

Sarah had never heard its name.

The ship contained fertility storage, surgical suites, corporate servers, and a courtroom designed to conduct private trust hearings at sea.

William had built a country small enough to obey him.

Helena knew the vessel existed.

She claimed she believed it had been dismantled.

“When did you last receive a report?” Naomi asked.

“Three years ago.”

“Then you knew it remained operational.”

“I knew a server remained.”

“Did you tell anyone?”

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because the records included women and children still protected from abusive families.”

Helena’s reason contained truth.

It also allowed William another escape route.

The Coast Guard located Continuity beyond New York Harbor under a medical-research exemption. William broadcast a warning that patients aboard would die if the ship lost power.

Thermal scans showed twelve adults and no children.

Some adults were employees.

Four were sedated women.

One was Catherine’s former physician.

Another was a surrogate candidate from the marriage contract.

The tactical team could not board recklessly.

Sarah remained ashore.

Alexander requested to join the operation.

Denied.

His relationship to William created conflict and made him predictable.

He provided access codes instead.

William contacted him privately anyway.

“I left you a company and five daughters.”

“You left crimes.”

“I preserved the Vale line after your affair proved emotion cannot be trusted.”

“My affair proved my judgment failed. It did not give you Sarah’s body.”

“Without me, Rose and Daisy would not exist.”

“Rose was conceived naturally.”

“Inside the conditions I preserved.”

William needed credit so completely that even unplanned life became his architecture.

Alexander kept him speaking while Coast Guard technicians separated the ship’s clinical power from its navigation controls.

The sedated women were not hostages by accident.

William had transferred them from institutions where guardianship cases remained active. Their medical files claimed they volunteered for protective relocation.

Two had not.

One had.

The fourth lacked capacity to decide without an advocate.

Different facts prevented the rescue from becoming a single narrative.

Rebecca recognized Lily’s original embryo-laboratory code inside the ship’s server. William intended to activate Lily and Violet as founder daughters from international waters. If a foreign registry recognized them first, he could challenge the U.S. parentage orders.

He needed no physical child.

He had stored fetal cells.

The court obtained an emergency injunction. Foreign authorities froze the registration. The women’s bodies would not become jurisdictional passports.

William ordered the ship’s captain to leave territorial waters.

The captain refused after receiving independent confirmation that the medical patients would remain protected.

William drew a weapon.

A deck camera captured the movement.

The captain locked the bridge.

William retreated into the fertility vault and threatened to destroy every stored sample.

Sarah spoke through the ship’s intercom after choosing to.

“Destroy the samples.”

Alexander looked toward her.

Some material belonged to victims who might want preservation.

Sarah corrected herself.

“Release individual control. Destroy nothing that belongs to someone else. But no sample is worth giving William authority over the ship.”

William heard the distinction.

He could not offer a bargain large enough.

Agents entered the vault after technicians disabled the fire system.

William attempted to inject himself with a cardiac drug that would make his death appear caused by excessive force.

A medic stopped him.

He was arrested alive.

The reproductive material entered independent custody. Every identifiable donor received notice and choices when possible.

Two embryos connected to the Maternal Circle remained frozen.

Neither had been implanted.

No new daughters waited in hidden nurseries.

The fifth infant had been Iris.

The expanding chain ended there.

William returned to detention under manual medical orders verified by an outside judge.

He looked toward Alexander before the vehicle door closed.

“Sarah will leave you with nothing.”

Alexander answered:

“She already had the right to leave.”

The founder’s expression showed that voluntary loss remained more incomprehensible to him than prison.

👉 William had been captured without sacrificing the patients or samples aboard his ship, and now the man who designed every heir would finally face them as witnesses rather than property.
