Chapter 6 - THE ARCHIVE AT BELLWEATHERBellweather House had not burned completely.

The structure above ground was a blackened shell hidden beyond an abandoned quarry. Beneath it, a reinforced operations level had survived.
Mara and Ethan reached the property with a state tactical team after refusing the false federal order. Oliver remained under Lawson and Megan’s protection.
Jonah’s vehicle stood near the quarry entrance.
Cal’s blood marked the driver’s door.
Inside the underground level, monitors glowed behind layers of dust. Someone had restored power recently.
Jonah was found handcuffed inside a communications room.
Cal lay unconscious beside him but remained alive.
Rebecca was not there.
The central archive required three forms of access.
A Rook command ring.
The seven-window sequence.
And a voice authorization from the operative designated Home.
Mara possessed the ring.
Oliver had supplied the sequence.
Rebecca was Home.
“She never worked for us,” Ethan said.
“Not officially,” Mara replied.
Rebecca had been a federal data analyst before meeting Ethan. She helped design the civilian cover identities used by Rook Team, including the emergency communications system.
Ethan had believed she left government work years earlier.
“She knew about Richard?” he asked.
“She discovered his role before Bellweather.”
“And told no one?”
“She told Grant.”
The archive screen activated.
A live video showed Rebecca seated inside an unknown room, a bruise along her temple. Richard sat several feet away with one arm bandaged.
Silas Grant stood behind them without a mask.
He was older, but unmistakable.
Six years earlier, Ethan had seen a covered body removed from the Bellweather ruins and accepted that it belonged to Grant.
The identity was based on dental records supplied by Richard.
Grant looked into the camera.
“Welcome home, Ethan.”
“Release Rebecca.”
“You have no authority here.”
“I have enough people outside to bury this place.”
Grant smiled.
“You said the same thing six years ago.”
Rebecca lifted her head.
“Don’t open the archive.”
Grant placed a gun against Richard’s shoulder.
Ethan felt no desire to protect his father. Then Grant shifted the weapon toward Rebecca.
Mara inserted her ring into the console.
“What are you doing?” Ethan demanded.
“Opening the first layer. Nothing more.”
The screen requested the seven-window sequence.
Ethan entered Oliver’s numbers.
The final lock requested Rebecca’s voice.
Grant forced her toward a microphone.
She remained silent.
Richard suddenly struck the microphone stand with his uninjured arm. Grant’s guards dragged him backward.
“You kidnapped Oliver,” Ethan said. “Why help her now?”
Richard looked toward the camera.
“Because Grant promised the boy would never be touched.”
“You believed him?”
“I believed I could control him.”
The same excuse had destroyed every family Richard entered.
Grant ordered the guards to activate a device beside Rebecca’s chair.
Her body stiffened.
She cried out.
Ethan moved toward the screen as though he could cross it.
Rebecca spoke into the microphone.
“Home recognizes Rook.”
The archive opened.
Thousands of files appeared.
Government officials.
Police commanders.
Judges.
Private contractors.
Medical officers.
The records proved Rook Team had been used to recover witnesses not for protection, but for containment. Some were relocated.
Others disappeared.
Richard had identified them.
Grant had authorized the missions.
Mara had managed the teams.
Ethan had carried out entries without seeing the larger system.
“You built this,” Ethan said to her.
“I was given fragments.”
“You never asked what happened after extraction.”
Mara’s silence answered.
The archive began transmitting to an external location.
Grant had never needed to read it at Bellweather.
He needed the team to unlock it.
Rebecca shouted:
“Disconnect the console!”
Mara pulled her ring free.
Too late.
The transfer reached twelve percent before stopping.
A destination code remained visible.
Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The archive was being sent back toward Oliver.
👉 Grant used Ethan’s rescue attempt to unlock the evidence—and redirected it toward the hospital room holding his son.
