The court did not declare one man real and the other false.
Marcus Vale Kane was Celeste’s biological son.
Michael Reed Kane had been placed inside a duplicate record when he was four.
Both had attended schools under versions of the name Marcus Kane.
Both possessed authentic memories.
Both had been injured by the same identity architecture.
Marcus had hidden his relationship to Evelyn, signed Celeste’s protection papers, concealed her survival, and served as Evelyn’s adviser without disclosing his potential forty-percent share.

Michael pleaded guilty to identity fraud, unlawful access, and conspiracy with Alexander’s security team.
His coercive childhood and voluntary surrender of the override reduced the sentence.
He received limited custody followed by assistance establishing an independent identity.
He chose the legal name Michael Reed Kane.
Reed came from the guardians who had raised him briefly before Alexander found him.
Kane remained because it belonged to memories no court could erase.
Marcus kept Marcus Vale Kane.
Neither man was required to surrender the shared surname to prove authenticity.
They met once after Michael’s release.
“You received her,” Michael said.
Marcus shook his head.
“I received assignments and occasional visits.”
“You received the truth that she was your mother.”
“Eventually.”
“I received her name and none of her.”
Marcus accepted the difference.
“Do you want a relationship?”
“I want you not to call me your decoy.”
“I won’t.”
They did not become brothers.
They exchanged medical information and later testified together before an identity-reform commission.
Michael worked in records restoration under supervision but never held unilateral access to living people’s sealed files.
