Chapter 6 - The Founder Who Refused to DieMarcus sent the photograph to three independent specialists.

None found obvious manipulation.
The lighting, shadows, skin texture, and newspaper reflections appeared natural. If the image was fabricated, the creator had used resources far beyond an ordinary family deception.
Graham stared at Adrian’s face.
“I met him once.”
Evelyn turned.
“You told me he died before your family joined Vale Crown.”
“My mother brought me to a private estate when I was nineteen. An older man questioned me about loyalty, inheritance, and whether I wanted children.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Vivian said he was a retired trustee.”
“You knew his name?”
“No. She called him Mr. A.”
Marcus looked toward Graham.
“What questions did he ask about children?”
“He asked whether I would raise a child who wasn’t biologically mine if the family required it.”
Evelyn felt cold.
“What did you say?”
“I said yes.”
Graham had forgotten the interview until Vivian began discussing the succession after Evelyn became pregnant.
Adrian may have selected him years before the marriage.
Like Evelyn, Graham had mistaken a designed meeting for chance.
Marcus traced the photograph’s encrypted transfer.
It originated from a Vale Crown emergency server located beneath an abandoned distribution center near Knoxville.
The facility officially closed after Adrian’s death.
Its power consumption had never stopped.
Evelyn wanted to go immediately.
Doctors refused to discharge the twins until morning.
Marcus arranged a protected medical suite and sent investigators ahead.
At dawn, police entered the distribution center.
The upper floors were empty.
A freight elevator descended three levels beneath the warehouse into a functioning command facility.
Offices contained current company files, medical records, security feeds, and family dossiers.
Adrian had continued monitoring Vale Crown from beneath its public leadership.
One wall displayed photographs of Evelyn from childhood to pregnancy.
Another tracked Graham’s career.
A third followed Vivian.
She had not controlled the old man.
She had reported to him.
Investigators found Caroline Shaw inside a small residential room.
She was alive and unharmed, but terrified.
During Evelyn’s delivery, Caroline had been ordered to prepare a third bassinet. She believed another mother’s baby would be transferred into the nursery under Vale protection.
Then Evelyn delivered two boys.
No third baby came from her operating room.
“Why was a third sample connected to me?” Evelyn asked through video.
Caroline looked toward someone outside the camera.
“A laboratory technician brought it.”
“Whose baby was it?”
“I was told not to ask.”
“Did Vivian take him?”
“Yes.”
“With Adrian?”
Caroline began crying.
“The man in the photograph isn’t Adrian Vale.”
“Who is he?”
“His younger brother.”
No official record mentioned a brother.
Caroline explained.
Adrian and Alexander Vale were identical twins. Alexander remained outside public life and occasionally appeared under Adrian’s identity during security threats.
When Adrian died fifteen years earlier, Alexander continued using his brother’s founder credentials.
The empire had been receiving instructions from the wrong Vale twin.
Marcus looked at Evelyn.
“Alexander could be the person who changed Celeste’s protection order.”
“And who renewed Vivian’s access.”
The third infant belonged to Alexander’s hidden family line.
He planned to present the child as a direct Vale descendant and claim the trust’s original three-heir condition.
Evelyn asked who the mother was.
Caroline shook her head.
Then investigators opened the laboratory dossier attached to the baby.
Mother:
Celeste Vale.
Evelyn’s mother had supposedly died twenty years earlier.
If the record was genuine, the newborn was Celeste’s son.
Evelyn’s brother.
Yet a woman in her fifties could not have delivered the baby naturally without extensive medical intervention—and no such pregnancy had been documented.
The file listed the method:
Preserved embryo transfer. Gestational carrier confidential.
Celeste had created embryos before her disappearance.

Alexander had used one decades later to produce another Vale heir.
👉 The third newborn was not Evelyn’s child at all—he was her brother, created from an embryo preserved before her mother vanished.
