Chapter 10 - Before the Folder Reveals Anything

No arrests were shown.
No police entered the mansion.
The evidence was not played.
The house ownership was not decided.
The father’s identity remained unrevealed.
The final legal consequences did not appear.
The story ended in the bright afternoon entrance of the luxury mansion, with black double doors open, chandelier light spilling over the marble foyer, the untouched makeup bag on the table, Eleanor’s handbag on the floor, and Audrey’s rolling suitcase standing beside her bare feet.
Audrey held the concealed second phone steady.
Her long dark hair hung loose around her bruised face.
Her white shirt shifted slightly in the breeze from the open doors.
Her expression was tearful, wounded, and mercilessly calm.
Julian stood frozen between Audrey’s father and the entrance, white T-shirt tight across his chest, luxury watch flashing uselessly on his wrist.
The arrogance he carried through the lock had collapsed into panic.
Eleanor stood beside him with both hands over her mouth, eyes fixed on the sealed leather folder as if it might ruin her without ever opening.
Audrey’s father stood between them and his daughter.
Dark charcoal suit.
Silver hair.
Sharp eyes.
One hand resting on the folder he had opened only an inch.
Outside, two blurred uniformed men waited silently beyond the doorway.
They did not enter.
They did not explain.
They simply existed where Julian could see them.
Audrey’s father looked directly at Julian.
“Sit down, Julian. We are discussing evidence.”
Julian’s lips parted.
No command came out.
Audrey’s phone kept recording.
The makeup bag remained untouched.
The suitcase remained ready.

And in the terrible quiet before anyone revealed what was inside the folder, Julian finally understood that Audrey had not called her father to be rescued.
She had called him so Julian would have to face what he had done without the comfort of privacy.
