Chapter 10 - THE SCHOOL NURSE’S FILEEmma had visited the school nurse four times since October.
Headache.
Sleepiness.
Dizziness.
Stomach pain.
Three visits occurred the morning after staying with Linda.
One occurred on an unrelated Monday.
Was that proof?
No.
Children have headaches.
School is exhausting.
Emma had anxiety.
But the pattern mattered.
The school nurse had documented one sentence in December:
Student reports “Grandma gives me a drink when I can’t calm down.”
The nurse asked whether it was tea.
Emma apparently said:
“Kind of.”
No further alarm.
Should the nurse have called us?
Maybe.
The school district reviewed it later.
The answer was not simple.
There was no disclosure of medication.
No obvious intoxication.
No severe symptoms at the time.
People later wanted everyone to have predicted the hospital.
