Chapter 20 - LINDA’S EXPLANATIONLinda did not say she wanted to hurt Emma.
Every piece of evidence supported the opposite.
That did not make her safe.
Her statement was almost painfully sincere.
“Emma suffers because Hannah encourages her to analyze every feeling.”
I sat through part of the recorded interview later with permission through the case process.
Linda continued:
“When children are exhausted, everything feels worse. I wanted her to sleep.”
The detective asked:
“Why use your prescription?”
“I knew what it did.”
“To you.”
“Yes.”
“Emma is ten.”
“I used very little.”
No argument about amount could make that sentence better.
“Did her pediatrician approve it?”
“No.”
“Did Hannah?”
“No.”
“Why not tell Hannah?”
Linda looked down.
“Because she would have said no.”
