Chapter 19 - WHAT HAPPENED THAT MORNINGMichael eventually gave a full statement as plea negotiations approached.

Emma woke anxious.

Math test.

Stomachache.

Crying.

I had already left for work.

Michael texted Linda.

They stopped at her house.

Linda prepared lemonade.

She reached for the herbal dropper first.

Could not find it.

Michael had taken it into his own work bag after deciding she relied on it too much.

Linda opened the kitchen cabinet.

Used the second dropper.

The stronger one.

Michael saw.

He asked:

“Is that the prescription one?”

Linda said:

“Barely any.”

He answered:

“Mom.”

She said:

“You wanted her calm.”

Emma was in the bathroom.

Michael could have poured the drink out.

He did not.

Could have told Linda no.

Did not.

Could have called me.

Did not.

When Emma returned, Linda handed her the bottle.

Michael said:

“Drink some before school.”

That was why he went white in the hospital.

He had not personally put the medication into the water.

May you like

He had watched it happen.

And handed the bottle to our daughter anyway.
