Chapter 1

Abusive Husband Raises His Foot Over His Injured Wife Just as Her Family Security Team Storms the Mansion.
Claire Carter Vale lay on the polished marble floor of the Beverly Hills mansion, one hand braced weakly beneath her, blood on her split lip, bruises darkening across her cheek and thigh.
Above her, Adrian Vale raised his shoe.
His navy suit was wrinkled, his tie loosened, his face twisted with rage.
“No one will ever believe you.”
His foot drove downward.
Before it touched her, headlights exploded through the open wrought-iron doors.
A tactical officer rushed inside and caught Adrian around the torso, dragging him backward.
His shoe slammed into the marble beside Claire’s hand.
Claire flinched.
Then she looked toward the doorway.
More officers entered, controlled and silent.
Celeste Vale stepped backward, her smug smile gone.
Claire lifted her bruised face.
“You already gave them proof.”
Adrian froze.
Then Evelyn Shaw walked in through the storm-lit entrance, rain on her charcoal coat, leather legal case in her hand.
“Step away from Claire. The emergency order is active.”
Adrian struggled against the officer.
“This is my house!”
Evelyn opened the case just enough to show sealed documents and a small evidence drive.
Claire pushed herself upright against the marble column, trembling but refusing to look away.
“No, Adrian. It was always mine.”
Adrian’s face drained of color.
