Chapter 6

Evelyn Shaw entered last.

That was deliberate.

She was not security.

She was authority.

Rain darkened the shoulders of her charcoal coat. Her silver hair was perfectly arranged. Her leather legal case hung from one hand like a weapon no one could legally touch.

Adrian saw her and went pale with anger.

“You.”

Evelyn looked at him as if he were a document with errors.

“Step away from Claire. The emergency order is active.”

Celeste stepped forward.

“Emergency order? From whom?”

Evelyn did not look at her.

“From the court process you were warned not to interfere with.”

No final ruling.

No complete explanation.

No ownership transfer revealed.

Just enough to make Celeste cover her mouth.

Adrian pointed toward the chandelier.

“This is my house!”

The sentence echoed through the foyer.

Evelyn opened the case slightly.

Inside were sealed legal documents, financial records, and a small evidence drive.

No words were readable.

Nothing final was shown.

But Adrian stared at the drive like it had teeth.

Claire saw it.

The months of preparation had survived.

The recordings.

The files.

The emergency order.

The proof Adrian said no one would ever believe.

It had reached Evelyn.
