Chapter 12 - THE WRONG CONTAINERThe white container came from our pantry.

Originally it held specialty baking powder.

Eleanor had washed it.

No label.

No pharmacy markings.

The little spoon was from a supplement jar.

That mattered because it suggested concealment.

Her attorney argued:

She simply transferred crushed medication into a more convenient container.

Convenience.

I laughed when I heard that.

Detective Keene did not.

“Intent is established by more than packaging.”

She was right.

A homemade container could conceal.

Or organize.

We needed more.

Then lab technicians found trace residue of chamomile extract in the container too.

Eleanor had mixed the crushed sedative with herbal powder.

Why?

Possibly to disguise taste.

Possibly because she believed she was creating a calming blend.

Again, motive mattered.
