Chapter 13 - THE SECOND INJURYTommy eventually described how the original cast cracked.
Laura came to the house.
Richard would not let her take Tommy.
Adults shouted.
Tommy moved between them.
Richard pulled him backward by the waist.
Tommy’s casted leg struck the corner of a coffee table.
The fiberglass split.
Laura screamed:
“His cast!”
Richard said:
“He’s fine.”
Laura called police from outside.
Richard closed the door.
When officers arrived, he said the cast had only superficial damage and Tommy was resting.
Tommy did not come to the door.
Why not?
“He told me stay upstairs.”
Police documented the welfare check.
They did not enter because the legal circumstances did not then provide clear authority for a forced search.
That report later became important.
