Chapter 14 - WHY RICHARD DIDN’T RETURN TO THE HOSPITALBy the time the blue cast cracked, Tommy had fresh bruising.
Richard knew the hospital would remove it.

Not necessarily to torture Tommy.

Richard cut off the broken medical cast at home.
During removal, Tommy cried.
Richard later told investigators:

He built a new cast thick enough to immobilize the leg.
Too thick.
Too tight.
Unsafe.
Then canceled the scheduled follow-up.
Three days later Tommy complained his heel burned.
Richard waited.
