“You’re not a doctor.”
“Correct.”
“You cannot diagnose a fracture.”
“I can assist in cast application and removal, identify cast-integrity problems, document observations, and follow physician orders.”
“You called security before any physician diagnosed abuse.”
“Yes.”
“Because you had already decided Mr. Hale was dangerous.”
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because the child expressed fear, the father attempted to remove him during an incomplete evaluation, and we had discovered an unsafe nonmedical cast with visible skin injury.”
“Did Mr. Hale strike you?”
“No.”
“Threaten you?”
“No.”
“Threaten Tommy in your presence?”
“No.”
Important.
Then:
“You originally mischaracterized an injury as possible burn-type.”
“Yes.”
“So you were wrong.”
“Yes.”
His eyebrows rose.
“And yet we should trust your observations?”
“I corrected the part I got wrong.”
Silence.
Then prosecution.
“What did Tommy say before you opened the cast?”
I looked toward the jury.
“Please don’t look inside.”
“What did his father say?”
