David’s sample came from an executive insurance examination.
Independent specialists repeated the test using fresh evidence.
David was excluded as the baby’s biological father.
The report was false.
Michael was confirmed as the likely father.
The forgery had another purpose.
If Emily disappeared after delivery, David could claim paternal rights through the false record and move the child under his personal guardianship.
The two-son identity system provided backup options.
The baby’s legal father could become Michael, Matthew, or David depending on which version best protected control of the trust.
Emily looked toward David through the glass.
“He planned three fathers for one child.”
Dr. Reyes answered quietly.
“He planned three legal stories.”
The company’s laboratory director, Dr. Owen Vance, had approved the false report.
Police found his office empty.
His computer had been wiped.
A voicemail on his desk contained David’s voice.
“Results are not lies if they prevent the wrong person from controlling the child.”
David still spoke as though the family’s desired outcome determined truth.
Natalie questioned Matthew about the private clinic.
He admitted working there under his protected identity. He had seen maternity rooms prepared for women connected to trust disputes, immigration cases, and wealthy custody battles.
“Were babies taken?” Natalie asked.
“Sometimes they were transferred before the mothers recovered.”
“Transferred where?”
“To guardians approved before delivery.”
“Did the mothers consent?”
“The charts said they did.”
Matthew had suspected forgery.
He continued working because David promised to restore his identity.
Like Michael, he waited for power before planning courage.
The brothers were not opposites.
They were different outcomes of the same training.
Investigators recovered records from twelve prior patients.
Each woman entered the clinic during a crisis.
Each had signed broad medical-control documents.
Five later challenged the signatures.
Three lost custody temporarily.
One remained missing.
Emily recognized the missing woman’s name.
Laura Bennett had served as Caroline Vale’s assistant.
She disappeared the year Emily met Michael.
Caroline’s letter mentioned her:
Laura found the first infant file. David made certain no one believed her.
Laura had not vanished voluntarily.

A search of her old patient portal revealed another encrypted attachment.
Its password matched Archive C.
Hannah opened it.
A voice recording played.
Laura sounded frightened.
“David is preparing a replacement pregnancy. Caroline thinks the plan is for Emily, but that is not the entire truth. The first child has already been born.”
The recording ended.
Emily stared at the screen.
“What first child?”
The file included a photograph of a newborn wearing a hospital band dated fifteen years earlier.

Emily had been nineteen.
