He told himself she was support.
The truth was less flattering.
He wanted a witness when Dr. Evans supposedly confirmed the pregnancy began after his surgery.
A witness to my humiliation.
He expected Jessica to stand beside him when he was proved right.
Why Jessica?
Because she had been the person reinforcing the conclusion.
She told him her former husband had been cleared quickly after vasectomy.
She said:
“If yours worked, the timeline says what it says.”
She asked him repeatedly whether I had male coworkers.
Whether I had traveled alone.
Whether my second miscarriage had “changed” me.
Derek did not invent suspicion from nothing.
Jessica fed it.
