Not because I sued her.
I had not.
Because Derek’s divorce discovery had begun touching communications between them.
She wanted to “clarify misinformation.”
Her statement:
She and Derek were close friends.
His marriage had been troubled.
She supported him.
They had not engaged in sexual intercourse before our separation.
She admitted developing feelings for him.
She denied trying to destroy our marriage.
She denied deliberately misleading him about vasectomy effectiveness.
She said:
“I believed what Derek told me—that the procedure had worked.”
That sentence was clever.
What had Derek told her?
And when?
The email evidence showed something else.
On July 5—two days after my positive test—Jessica texted Derek:
You said the last time with Sarah was around May 20, right?
Derek:
21st. Maybe 22nd.
Jessica:
That’s eight days before surgery.
Derek:
I know.
Jessica:
Could she really have conceived that close?
Derek:
I don’t know.
Then Jessica:
Don’t let her use a baby to pull you back before you know.
That was not the language of someone certain I cheated.
It was someone uncertain.
Yet three days later she texted:
If the procedure took, this can’t be yours. Stay strong.
She had moved from question to conclusion without new evidence.
