Chapter 12 - Owen starts protecting everyone

Owen changed too.
That part hurt.
He began watching his mother constantly.
At school pickup.
Family dinners.
If Natalie sounded irritated, he intervened.
“Mom, it’s okay.”
“Mom, I don’t care.”
“Mom, Grace can have it.”
His therapist later called it:
“premature emotional monitoring.”
Eight-year-old language:
He was trying to keep adults calm.
Jason noticed first.
At dinner, Natalie complained about a restaurant forgetting sauce.
Owen said:
“It’s okay, Mom. Don’t get mad.”
Natalie stopped.
Looked at him.
Something shifted.
Her son was afraid of her anger.
Not necessarily afraid she would hit him.
No evidence she had.
May you like
Afraid anger would explode into something nobody could take back.
That realization broke through where legal letters had not.
