Chapter 25 - My relationship with Natalie

Natalie and I did not become close again quickly.
We learned smaller things first.
Text before visiting.
No discussing parenting through Mom.
No using children as messengers.
No family jokes about:
Claire being dramatic
or
Natalie controlling everything.
If one of us had a complaint?
Direct.
Ugly sometimes.
Healthier.
Two years after the party, Natalie said:
“I still think you overreact sometimes.”
I laughed.
“I still think you plan oxygen.”
She smiled.
Then:
“See? This is better.”
“What is?”
“We can dislike things about each other without making the kids prove who’s right.”
Exactly.
We were sisters.

Not soulmates.
Enough.
