Natalie’s criminal case did not end with prison.
The injuries were limited.
She had no prior record.
The conduct was serious but isolated based on available evidence.
She ultimately pleaded to a misdemeanor child-assault/endangerment-related offense rather than continue denying the slap.
Her formal acknowledgment stated:
She intentionally struck Grace once.
She had no parental authority to use physical discipline.
She caused visible injury and fear.
She accepted:
Probation.
Anger-management treatment.
Parenting-boundary education.
Community service.
No contact with Grace unless both parents agreed and therapeutic guidance supported it.
Restitution for medical and counseling costs not covered by insurance.
No jail fantasy.
No permanent ban from her own son.
The court treated Owen’s welfare separately.
Rightly.
Natalie remained his mother.
Jason and Natalie entered couples counseling.
Family court was never asked to terminate her parental rights because the facts did not justify anything that extreme.
