Chapter 13 - Jason stops smoothing things over
Jason and Natalie had been married eleven years.
He had always played peacemaker.
Natalie planned.
Jason adjusted.
She chose holidays.
He drove.
She corrected.
He joked.
After the birthday, that changed.
He told investigators exactly what Owen told him.
Did not minimize.
When Natalie said:
“You’re supposed to be my husband.”
He answered:
“I’m also his father.”
That sentence created a six-week separation.
Natalie stayed in the house.
Jason rented a furnished apartment.
Owen moved between them under a temporary family arrangement.
No custody war.
No dramatic filing.
Jason said he needed Natalie to address:
Anger.
Control.
Her tendency to treat disagreement as disloyalty.
Natalie accused me of destroying her marriage.
For about two months.
Then stopped.
Because Jason refused to let me become explanation.
“This is about our house.”
