Chapter 25 - BUN-BUNTwo years after the bathroom night, Bun-Bun lost an ear.

Not emotionally.

Literally.

The stitching failed.

Sophie came into my room crying.

“Fix him.”

I could have.

Needle.

Thread.

Five minutes.

Instead I asked:

“Do you want me to fix it now?”

“Yes.”

We sat at the kitchen table.

She watched.

I stitched.

When I finished, one ear sat slightly higher.

“He looks weird.”

“Professional work is expensive.”

She laughed.

Then said:

“Daddy used to take Bun-Bun when I didn’t do quiet game.”

My hands stopped.

“Do you want to talk about that?”

“No.”

“Okay.”

She picked him up.

That was progress.

An old memory could surface without requiring interrogation.

May you like

Without becoming evidence collection.

Without swallowing the evening.
