Chapter 22 - Sofia and Noah
Sofia’s relationship with Noah took longer than she expected.
She thought one apology would restore:
favorite cousin.
No.
Noah remained polite.
Then distant.
At family events, he chose other kids.
Sofia complained to Lucía:
“He’s punishing me.”
Lucía finally gave the correct answer.
“He’s choosing distance.”
Good.
By year two, they improved.
Sofia was seventeen.
Noah twelve.
She drove him to a science museum once with my permission and Lucía’s.
Before they left, Sofia said:
“No pranks.”
Noah stared.
“That’s not funny.”
She immediately said:
“You’re right.”
Good.
No defensive:
I was kidding.
At the museum, they had fun.
Later Noah told me:
“She’s less annoying.”
Highest adolescent compliment.
By year three, they could joke about many things.
Not the mud unless Noah initiated.
