Chapter 24 - Noah asks about the signature
Noah was twelve when he asked what Grandpa had:
“done with your name.”
He had heard pieces.
I did not want corporate fraud becoming playground mythology.
So I explained simply.
“Grandpa needed company approval for money to go to another company he owned.”
“Did you approve?”
“No.”
“He wrote your name?”
“A copy of my signature was placed on a document.”
“That’s illegal.”
“Potentially, yes. He had legal consequences.”
“Did he go to jail?”
“No prison. He had court supervision and other penalties.”
Noah seemed disappointed.
Children want cinematic sentencing.
“He paid money back?”
“Yes.”
“Did you fire him?”
“The board removed him from his role.”
“Was it your company?”
“Partly.”
“Is it Grandpa’s?”
“Partly.”
He frowned.
“How can both?”
“Shares.”
“Boring.”
Exactly.
Then:
“Did he do it because of my birthday?”
“No.”
Important.
“The audit was already happening. The document existed months before your party.”
“So the birthday didn’t catch him.”
“No.”
“Then the title is misleading.”
I laughed.
“What title?”
He shrugged.
“Like if somebody made a YouTube story.”
God help us.
“The birthday showed me something about Grandpa. The audit email showed me something else.”
“Same day?”
“Next morning.”
“That is kind of dramatic.”
