Chapter 13 - The emergency protection order
I obtained a temporary protection order.
Not because Luke had previously beaten me.
Because the court had:
The recording.
Physical injury.
Evidence he blocked my movement.
Statements about obedience.
An ongoing financial dispute.
The order restricted Luke’s direct contact and excluded him from certain access to me.
The house issue was complicated because it was titled in his name.
I did not immediately move back.
I stayed with Jenna after discharge.
Ground-floor apartment.
Crutches.
Then walker.
Then wheelchair for longer distances.
A cast turns ordinary architecture into negotiation.
Shower.
Stairs.
Door thresholds.
Groceries.
I hated needing help.
That became a lesson too.
Jenna said:
“You can hate it and still let me carry the laundry.”
Fair.
Luke requested supervised retrieval of personal items from the house.
The court allowed structured access after police completed evidence processing.
No dramatic permanent seizure.
Property law still existed.
Marriage law still existed.
Criminal investigation did not make everything mine.
