Chapter 20 - The rolling pin

Police kept the rolling pin as evidence.
Dark wood.
Heavy.
One handle chipped from hitting the tile after it struck me.
Forensic testing did not produce dramatic revelations.
No blood.
No secret fingerprints.
Everyone already knew Celina handled it.
The important evidence was:
Its weight.
Dimensions.
Location.
My medical injury.
Audio.
Statements.
At the end of the criminal case, the property unit asked whether I wanted it returned because it had originally belonged to me.
“No.”
I did not want it displayed.
Burned.
Broken in a symbolic ceremony.
Nothing.
Dispose of it.
A rolling pin should not become the most important object in my life.
I bought another one two years later.
Silicone.
Bright blue.
Jenna laughed.
“You’re reclaiming baking?”
“No.”
“What are you making?”
“Pie.”
“Sounds like reclaiming.”
“Stop narrating me.”
May you like
The pie was terrible.
