Chapter 12 - WHY LINDA USED THE OTHER BOTTLELinda did not set out to manufacture fake medicine in some laboratory.
She reused an amber pharmacy bottle from an old prescription.
Washed it.
Mixed diluted acetaminophen because Owen tolerated it.
Her reasoning:
If I saw a familiar-looking bottle in the medicine bag, I would not ask questions.
That was manipulation.
She admitted that much eventually.
Her lawyer called it:
“A deeply misguided attempt to avoid family conflict.”
My lawyer said:
“Conflict avoidance does not usually involve decoy medication.”
I liked my lawyer.
Linda said she planned to call Dr. Sterling the next morning.
She did not.
Then the next.
Still did not.
Each time Owen’s fever dropped after acetaminophen, she treated the temporary number as proof the plan was working.
Fever rose again.
Another dose.
