Chapter 19 - THE PROFILE CALLED GIGIGIGI was not a name.

It stood for Guardian Identity Genetic Index.
Walter commissioned the system after learning Miriam’s trust depended upon Joanna’s biological child. If Louisa became unavailable, disputed, or removed from Elmer, Walter wanted another genetic beneficiary ready to authenticate the shares.
Sophie became GIGI-2.
The profile contained her newborn heel print, blood type, facial projections, voice predictions, and the distinctive birthmark beneath her chin.
Dr. Saye had updated the file using photographs Laura submitted during routine pediatric visits.
Laura believed Mercer Family Services required the reports to preserve adoption benefits.
The company was building a financial key from her daughter’s growth.
At the trust hearing, Walter’s attorneys argued that both twins should become joint beneficiaries under one account.
Helen Brooks opposed them.
“One account allows anyone controlling either child to create authority over the other.”
Joanna’s independent attorney agreed.
Separate children required separate protections.
The court recognized Louisa and Sophie as biological grandchildren under Miriam’s original intent. Paternal identity did not affect their status.
The judge ordered the financial interests divided equally into two independently administered trusts.
Neither Joanna nor Laura received direct investment control.
Joanna retained parental authority for Louisa’s ordinary needs.
Sophie’s temporary advocate controlled no money beyond approved care expenses.
Helen appointed separate professional fiduciaries who could not benefit from custody outcomes.
The GIGI system was prohibited from changing either girl’s legal name.
Sophie remained Sophie Grant.
Louisa remained Louisa Mercer for the moment.
A trust profile reading Louisa Cole did not become a birth certificate.
Sophie’s first meeting with Joanna occurred in a child-therapy room.
Amy Grant remained beside her.
Joanna brought no matching clothes, no family photographs, and no demand for an embrace.
Sophie stared at her.
“You look like the lady in the video.”
“I am.”
“Did I come out of your tummy?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you keep me?”
“I did not know you had been taken.”
“Mommy knew me.”
“Laura raised you.”
“Is she in jail?”
“She is answering questions because she made an unsafe choice.”
“Are you mad at her?”
“Yes.”
Sophie looked frightened.
Joanna continued:
“I can be angry and still know you love her.”
The child’s shoulders relaxed slightly.
Louisa entered only after both girls agreed.
They stared at each other’s shaved heads.
Sophie touched her own scalp.
“Did the bad lady do yours too?”
“Grandma did,” Louisa said.
“Why?”
“She said I stole.”
“Did you?”
“No.”
“I didn’t either.”
The girls sat beside each other without touching.
Louisa offered the stuffed bunny.
Sophie declined and chose a wooden horse from the therapist’s shelf.
No adult called the refusal a failed reunion.
Their first meeting lasted fourteen minutes.
Afterward, Joanna cried in the parking lot where neither child could see her.
The same day, Caroline activated forty-three dormant GIGI profiles inside the Mercer guardianship archive.
Not all belonged to stolen children.
Some belonged to legitimate beneficiaries whose biometrics had been copied without consent.
The system began freezing homes, survivor payments, and medical accounts while searching for a primary controller.
Caroline released a statement.
“Walter turned children into keys. Miriam turned one child into a counter-key. I am turning every lock at once so the public can see the doors.”
Joanna answered through Rachel:
“People live behind those doors.”
Caroline replied:
“They lived there while everyone asked for better evidence.”
A widow’s medication account stopped processing during the freeze.
A teenager’s tuition payment failed.
A protected family’s current address appeared inside an unsecured court filing.

Caroline’s exposure was becoming another form of control.
👉 Sophie and Louisa met without being forced into one identity, while Caroline began using dozens of other children’s records to prove that no secret could be dismantled gently.
