Joanna would withdraw the custody objections and issue a statement that Walter alone planned the apartment incident. In exchange, Elmer would identify the location of the pension ledgers and surrender Lydia.
“You watched Louisa freeze,” Joanna said.
“I was trying to make my parents expose themselves.”
“You approved what they did.”
“I needed the camera footage to capture them.”
Joanna almost laughed.
“You didn’t know the camera existed.”
Elmer became silent.
His revised story collapsed instantly.
“Tell police where they are.”
“I need protection.”
“You need to decide whether you’re still a father before you run out of chances.”
Elmer ended the call.
Heather provided the address he was likely using: a private medical clinic near Walter’s country property.
The clinic specialized in cognitive evaluations for guardianship cases.
Dr. Harold Saye, Walter’s longtime physician, owned it.
Police arrived and found Lydia inside an examination room.
She had been sedated but remained conscious.

“They were adults.”
“I know.”

Lydia gave Rachel a safe-deposit key Miriam once placed inside the bracelet. Heather had removed the wrong compartment.
The real key was hidden inside the clasp Lydia kept after Elmer broke the bracelet.
