Chapter 15 - AURELIA HAD USED THE CAR BEFORE
Not the same way.
Important.
Two prior incidents emerged.
First:
Three weeks after Rosalie’s funeral, Elliot refused to leave a family lunch.
Aurelia put him in the parked SUV for what she called a “quiet reset.”
Door open.
Engine on.
Air conditioning running.
Two minutes.
Not dangerous.
Still strange.
Second:
At a school event, Elliot kicked the back of a seat while waiting.
Aurelia told him:
“You stay in the car while I speak with the teacher.”
Engine running.
Driver present in front.
Five minutes.
Again, not locked alone in heat.
These were not hidden crimes.
They showed a discipline habit.
The vehicle had become a timeout space.
Why?
Aurelia liked containment.
“Children calm when the environment stops changing.”
Her theory.
Sometimes predictable spaces help.
A locked hot SUV is not therapy.
The earlier incidents made the final one less spontaneous.
She had already normalized:
