Detective Lowe asked Elliot what Aurelia wanted him to say.
The interview happened with a trained child specialist.
I watched from another room.
I hated every second.
“Did Aunt Aurelia ask you to say something?”
Elliot nodded.
“What?”
“That I want to stay at Grandma’s house.”
The Vellari estate had belonged to our mother before she died.
We still called it Grandma’s house.
Technically, I owned sixty percent through the family property company.
Aurelia owned forty.
“Do you live there?”
“Yes.”
“With who?”
“Dad. Clara. Aunt Aurelia sometimes. People.”
“Did you want to say you wanted to stay there?”
“I do like there.”
The interviewer waited.
“But?”
Elliot twisted the hem of his hospital shirt.
“She said say I want her in charge.”
There.
“Who did she want you to say it to?”
“A lady.”
“What lady?”
“Phone lady.”
A video call.
Then:
“What did you say?”
“I said Dad is in charge.”
“What happened?”
“She got mad.”
Then the SUV.
No need more.
The phrase until you obey now had context.
Aurelia had wanted Elliot to repeat a statement during a scheduled video conversation.
