Chapter 19 - THE FAMILY MEETING I REFUSE

Three uncles wanted reconciliation.

Not with the children.

Between me and Aurelia.

“Before this destroys the family.”

The family had survived funerals.

Lawsuits.

Business failures.

It could survive boundaries.

They proposed dinner.

No lawyers.

No recording.

I refused.

One uncle said:

“She’s your sister.”

“Yes.”

“She practically raised you after your father died.”

True.

Aurelia was five years older.

When I was fourteen and our father died, she became protective.

Too protective.

She checked my homework.

Friends.

Phone.

College applications.

Then business contracts.

Rosalie once told me:

“Your sister loves you like she’s waiting for you to make a mistake.”

I laughed then.

Now I understood.

Aurelia’s pattern was old.

Help first.

Authority second.

Resentment when the person grows beyond the help.

With me.

Then Elliot.

Then Clara.

The family meeting could happen later.

Not before accountability.
