The inheritance he had tried to manufacture.
Dad’s 46 percent did not pass to him.
The altered codicil failed.
His contingent claim under the family trust failed because I was Samuel’s verified biological descendant.
The specific $4 million bequest Dad had left Richard under the 2022 will created an uglier question.
Should a person who fraudulently tried to replace the will still receive a valid bequest under the original?
The law did not automatically apply a “slayer rule” because Richard had not killed Dad.
We negotiated.
As part of civil settlement, Richard renounced most of the specific bequest in exchange for resolution of certain estate claims and expense disputes.
A smaller amount went toward restitution and fees.
He kept what he already lawfully owned.
Lost what he had tried to take.
