Chapter 26 - THE FINAL PROBATE ORDERTwo years after Dad’s funeral, the probate judge entered the final major distribution order.

By then the cemetery mud had dried through two summers.

My prosthesis had been replaced with a better permanent socket.

Vale Advanced Materials had appointed a professional chair unrelated to our family.

Good.

The order confirmed:

The substituted middle page was invalid.

The genuine codicil controlled only as a temporary hold pending paternity confirmation.

Hartwell’s witnessed DNA result satisfied the factual condition.

Samuel’s 2022 estate plan therefore governed the primary disposition.

Most of Dad’s Vale shares entered the planned trust.

I did not receive a giant pile of certificates and walk out controlling the company.

The institutional trustee retained significant voting authority.

An employee trust gained additional representation.

I received economic rights and a gradually increasing governance role under the existing plan.

Dad had designed it so no grieving heir could become king in one afternoon.

Smart man.

Richard’s enhanced inheritance claim ended.

His existing 13 percent remained his.

My relationship with him did not.

No reconciliation.

No final confrontation in the courthouse hallway.

He left through another exit.

That was fine.
