Deborah’s psychiatric records were mostly unavailable, protected even after death except where law allowed.
We did learn enough through family and old records to avoid one easy mistake.
She had suffered severe depression after stillbirth.
Possibly complicated grief.
That did not make infant abduction inevitable.
Millions grieve without kidnapping children.
Mental illness did not become a moral eraser.
Deborah made a choice.
Then another.
Then left Marian holding the consequences.
Victoria asked whether I wanted to know everything about her.
I said:
“No.”
