Victoria asked to meet in the same chapel.
I almost said no.

No guests.
No gown.
She stood beside the place where she had torn my sleeve.
“I want to say something here.”

She looked at the floor.
“I assaulted you.”
The word surprised me.
“I grabbed your clothing and tore it from your body because I wanted to humiliate you.”

“I had spent two years treating uncertainty in your background as proof you were less worthy of Ethan.”

“I cannot turn that into maternal instinct now.”

Because people had already started romanticizing it.

“I did not recognize you because love guided me. I recognized a scar after behaving cruelly.”
