Chapter 10 - The Beginning of the Evidence

Emily’s complete evidence archive was not revealed.
Grant’s hidden financial crimes were not named.
The other recordings remained unseen.
No arrest was shown.
No final legal outcome arrived.
The story ended in the upscale private hospital room at St. Catherine’s Hospital in Chicago, with warm bedside lamps, harsh corridor light, an IV stand beside the bed, and two alert officers watching Grant Mercer from near the closed door.
Emily lay beneath the white blanket, pale blush hospital camisole visible at her shoulder, bruised and exhausted but no longer silent.
Her disheveled blonde hair framed a face full of pain that had turned cold.
She held the black smartphone against her chest like a shield.
Dr. Ethan Reed stood protectively beside her bed, white coat tense across his shoulders, fury controlled behind his eyes.
Grant stood near the bedrail in his black suit, wedding ring still on his hand, face collapsing from rage into absolute dread.
He had seen one recording.
He had recognized the blurred folders.
He had watched Emily swipe past proof she had not yet explained.
Then she met his eyes.
“And that wasn’t the only camera.”
Grant stopped breathing for a second.
The officers did not move.
Dr. Reed did not speak.
Emily did not open another file.

She did not need to.
The hospital video was only the beginning, and Grant Mercer finally understood that the woman he had trained to beg had learned to record before she learned to run.
