Chapter 10 - ANDREW’S ACCOUNTAfter the hearing, Andrew gave police an interview through counsel.
He admitted removing Mom’s medication.
But not to confuse her.
His explanation:
She had already double-dosed twice.
He began keeping bottles separately and dispensing doses himself.
“Why tell her she had already taken them?”
“Because sometimes she had.”
“On the recording?”
“I don’t remember.”
“Did you document doses?”
“No.”
“Use a pill organizer?”
“She refused.”
Maria’s notes contradicted that partly.
Mom had accepted a basic organizer.
Andrew later stopped using it.
Why?
“Too many people were touching it.”
Who?
Maria.
Me.
Vanessa.
Again, plausible concern wrapped around control.
Did he know Vanessa struck Mom?
“I saw the aftermath.”
The footage showed him entering about forty seconds later.
Could have missed the slap.
Did Vanessa tell him?
“No.”
Did Mom?
“Yes.”
Did he believe her?
“No.”

That answer hurt more than anything.
He had chosen the dementia story before the court ever heard it.
