He wrote:
I did not request that Mr. Vance or his child be displaced. I advised Mr. Dalton that I could remain in economy or accept a later flight. He responded that the airline had “already identified seats.”
That mattered.
The wealthy businessman was not the cause.
He was the excuse Dalton assumed needed solving.
Richard called me afterward.
“I hate that I’m the villain in the internet version.”
“You’re not in mine.”
“I appreciate that.”
Then:
“Can I do something for Maya?”
“No.”
“Scholarship?”
“No.”
He laughed.
“You’re difficult to apologize to.”
“You didn’t do it.”
“Fair.”
Eventually he donated to a veterans’ mobility nonprofit without using my name.
